Choosing a Marketing Strategy

Welcome!

In my last post I wrote about my concern that I was "training" too much and not taking enough action.  My problem was not knowing what kind of action I needed to take!

I've not talked much about marketing yet.  Honestly, because I don't know much about marketing in the first place.  Shortly after joining PeopleString, I clicked on someone's link in the forum and joined a free training site called Netdivvy.  I watched a couple of the free videos and never really did anything else with it.  Well, I've gone back to Netdivvy and delved into more of their free content and have really found some things of value.  Specifically, I have found some basic marketing strategies that can easily be mastered and used on a daily basis.  They (the Netdivvy founders and trainers) suggest choosing one strategy at a time, mastering it, and then utilizing it several times a week before moving onto the next strategy.

I have decided to start with forum marketing.  The basic principle is that I will join and become integrated into several forums that are focused on working at home, marketing, entrepreneurship, etc.  Each of the sites allow members to have signatures and in these signatures I can put links to whatever I want (tastefully of course and while never spamming).  Then whenever I post, everyone can see my signature, and hopefully I can be charming and helpful enough that they will want to learn more about me and click my link to here!

I have joined WAHM (Work at Home Moms) and Better Networker forums, so far.  Honestly, I've done more reading than posting in either.  There is so much information on them that I get easily sidetracked on some strategy, tip, blog, or site that I've not seen, so it's difficult to keep focused and not become overwhelmed.

It's really easy for me to get on while the baby's napping, spend 2 hours on here, and then realize when she's up that I've not actually taken any actions!  I'm making an effort to change that today by posting value on the forums, or as much value as I can with my little experience, and working on both blogs (that's right, I've started another blog that helps new members using PeopleString!).  It's difficult, though.  Even now, just trying to write this blog, the baby is off and on my lap, crying when she can't use the mouse or push keys.

I will say that I'm pleased with what I'm learning, but I still need to push myself to more action in getting the word out about PeopleString.

Thanks for reading...have a blessed day!

The "Real" Work at Home Mom

I don't know about you, but I've always had this mental image of a work-at-home mom.  I see this "Super Mom" typing away at her desk in the kitchen, wearing her chocolate power suit and high heels.  Every hair is in place in her Sarah Palin power twist.  Her 10 yr. old rides through on a skateboard and bumps the desk, knocking her over her herbal tea, but she gracefully catches it in her perfectly manicured hand without spilling a drop ...or taking her eyes from the screen.  The house is immaculate and dinner is on the table - all without breaking a sweat.

What a joke! What I didn't see was all of the distractions.  That every time the marketing training video I'm watching finally gets ready to reveal the BIG SECRET...

"Mommy.  Mommy?  Mommy!  Mommy."

*pauses the video*  "Yes, dear?"

"Am I the only person in the house wearing a skirt today?"

"Yes, it seems you are."

*rewinds the video and braces for the big reveal*

"Mommy?  Mommy.  Mommy!"

"Yes?" (Usually said with a little less patience.)

"Does that cloud look like a storm cloud?"

"What cloud?"

"That one."

"No, that's a smudge on the window."

After five more attempts of watching the same clip, removing a splinter, changing a diaper, identifying and then killing a bug...I've forgotten the point of the video in the first place.

While I can't imagine me wearing a power suit and heels around the house, I have been making more of an effort to be "presentable".  I've been getting (ok, trying to get) up earlier than the baby so I can do my hair and makeup before she's awake.  You may wonder why it would matter, but so many of the articles I've read and videos I've watched from financially successful internet marketers say that if you really and truly want to make it in this business, you MUST change the way you think.  That you must believe and act like what you want to become.  So, to feel more professional and motivated...I've been making an effort to "look" professional and motivated.

This weekend was a busy one.  I managed to paint our front door and the majority of the school room, but also found some time for some surveys and daily clicking.  I've been struggling with how to manage my time when I'm able to be on the computer.  I heard Vince Reed say once that you should spend the majority of your time building your business and then just small amounts of time maintaining and training.  I think I've been spending way too much time training and maintaining and very little time trying to build my business. With that in mind, I spent some time in prayer this weekend and realized that I need to do more "doing" and less "learning how to do".  Of course, I've had to do a lot of reading and video watching because I started a month ago with zero experience, but there comes a time when you need to take the step and really DO.  Well, I'm there.

Let's do this...

Total internet income to date...$33.86

Where to begin...

Welcome back, readers.

Tonight I want to begin giving you the list of sites I have joined in the last 28 days that I have made any type of money or compensation.  I will give you a brief description of each in this post but will later talk about some of them in more depth, particularly if they prove successful.

PeopleString

I will go in chronological order and start with PeopleString.  I've already told you my story of the site's discovery, so I'll spare you those details.  PeopleString is very similar to Facebook and MySpace in that it is a social networking site where you create a profile, have the opportunity to meet people and connect with friends with messaging and status updates, and even play a few games.  The main difference in  the sites is that PeopleString shares 70% of the ad revenues with its members.

I use PeopleString as my homepage or as some call it...my "internet portal".  I use it to connect to my email, Facebook, Twitter, shopping, etc.  By doing this I gain People Points that show how much I use the site.  At the end of the month the points turn to cash.  There's no real formula as to how many points equal what amount of money, but obviously when they start passing out the cash...the more points you have the bigger your portion of the revenues will be.

The site also has a few other options to make faster money that I use.  You can take surveys, watch videos, or participate in both free and paid offers that offer small cash rewards.  I have downloaded a few toolbars, completed the daily surveys when available, and always watched the videos.

As with any money making site (as I'm quickly finding out), you can also make money from referrals.  PeopleString pays you 5% of everything your direct referrals make (from ad revenue, surveys, video, etc.) and then 2% of what everyone your referrals refer up to 6 levels.  I have 3 referrals...one of which is active.

I do consider PeopleString to be my "primary" source of online income at this early stage, which is why I can give you more info about it than the other sites.  If you're interested in PeopleString, contact me at robandsummer@peoplestring.com with questions, or feel free to sign-up here.

To date I have made $13.91 and have over 8100 people points toward ad revenue for this month.

Read Bud

The next site I joined due to pure curiosity.  A gentleman on the PeopleString posted several banners on my profile one day and this one caught my eye.

readbud - get paid to read and rate articles

I signed up on August 1st and found that the banner is correct...all you need to do is read articles that are obviously written by amateur article writers and then rate them on a scale of 1-5.  You get paid by the length of the article (longer articles offer higher rewards) anywhere from 2-20 cents.  You choose your topics of interest so the articles should be somewhat interesting to you.

I have found that many of the articles are poorly written but have read a few jewels, such as a detailed account of why the ionic hairdryers are better than the regular ones.  I've always wondered about it and now I know!  Anyway, I typically read a few articles in the morning and then again before bed.

With Read Bud, I've made so far...$7.21.  If you're interested in participating in this site, please use the banner.

Neobux

Last week, a friend who is also into making money online suggest Neobux.  This is the simplest site to use but also the most confusing to me.  Neobux pays you 1 cent per click to view 4 ads per day.  That's right math majors...they pay you 4 cents a day.  Sounds terrible, right?  Well, yes and no...it's very slow to start (as I'm finding out) but it you stick with it daily there's a lot of potential because of their referral program.  As I understand it, when you have clicked on your four ads so many days that you have some money in your account you can "rent" referrals and then you earn a penny for the clicks the referrals make as well as your own.  Hopefully, this one will become clearer the longer I do it as I really don't understand the renting aspect but sort of get the results it will bring.

So, in 7 days with Neobux, I've brought in a whopping...$0.29.

Points2Shop

This one is a neat little site.  I joined Points2Shop 6 days ago after watching a video of a guy making $100 in 2 days.  The idea is very simple...you view company ads, takes surveys, take part in free or paid offers, sign up for free trials, or whatever catches your eye...and you earn points.  These points can be used to purchase items on Amazon at the rate of 100 points = $1.  The points seem to be very easy to get and there are plenty of free offers to choose from.  I, personally, don't spend money on any of the things I use to make money.  They also offer games to help gain points as well.

To date, I have made $6.70 with Points2Shop

So, for 28 days online, I have pulled in (dromroll, please) $28.11.  Not enough to replace husband's job, but I'm persistent.

In my next post I will outline some of the marketing strategies I'm learning and my sources...stay tuned!

I hope this has been helpful.  Thanks for reading!

Introductions, Please

Good afternoon, bloggers.

Let me begin by introducing myself.  My name is Summer.  I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom of two beautiful girls. I will be sharing with you my journey of finding an income working solely online.  My goal is to relieve financial pressure from husband while securing my place at home.

I will document my progress and detail my efforts by sharing the sites I use, the exact results I get, and what I learn from the internet marketing gurus.  I will show you what works and what doesn't, and how it affects me as I manage and school my children.  I hope this will be an honest and interesting look at what it really takes to work at home.  Before we start, you should know that I have no previous experience working online.  In fact, a month ago I had no idea that people legitimately made incomes by just being on the internet!

Roughly three weeks ago, my oldest brother began spamming Facebook that he found a site that paid money to users for just checking their email and playing games.  I did my best to ignore him and avoid the topic because I immediately thought "Great, he's selling Amway, again."  Well, a few days later, we had a real conversation about the site and I decided to try it out since it was completely free.  So, on July 22, I opened an account with PeopleString - a free social networking site that shares its ad revenues with members.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into.  I was quickly introduced to this world where people are actually making thousands of dollars just being online, not just with PeopleString, but with what seems to be a long list of sites that pay you to do various tasks on the internet.  I started watching videos on Youtube and seeing proof that these people were bringing in pretty big bucks.  The potential of making money out there is staggering and I wanted to be part of it!  I thought...Hey, I have a degree (not that that actually matters doing this kind of work, but it at least helps me feel more able) and I'm a hard worker...surely, if these guys can do it, so can I!

Telling my husband what I was going to do was interesting.  It was like I was playing a new video game or crocheting a new scarf.  He gave me the "that's nice, sweetie" pat on the head and went back to watching King of the Hill.  Over the last three weeks, he has shown growing support to my efforts and seems to understand that I'm really into this whether or not he believes it will actually work.

In the following series of blogs, I will go through the sites I have joined in the last couple of weeks and what I have made so far.  I will then include you, dear reader, in all my efforts to be financially successful online.

Thanks for reading!
